Biplab Deb’s blunder update: Rabindranath Tagore returned Nobel Prize in protest

Agartala: The Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb has become a daily dose of embarrassment for Bharatiya Janata Party, along with becoming a source of amazement for many others because of his commitment to carry out bloopers every now and then.

In a recent development, Mr Deb told people that the legendary poet and visionary, Rabindranath Tagore had returned his Nobel prize in protest of British Raj. The CM was speaking at an event that was organised to mark the birth anniversary of Tagore, NDTV report said.

Rabindranath Tagore had received the Nobel Prize for poetry in 1913 but he had rejected Knighthood in protest against the Jalianwalla Bagh massacre in 1919.

What is Knighthood:

A knighthood is a title that is given to a man by a British king or queen for his achievements or his service to his country. A man who has been given a knighthood can put ‘Sir’ in front of his name instead of ‘Mr’.

And not a long time ago, he had advised the educated youth in his state to “set up paan shops instead of running after political parties for several years to get government jobs and waste vital time of their life.”
