AMU Alumni Meet 2016: A writeUP by zartab haider jafri

AMU Alumni Meet 2016

Since coming back from Aligarh last evening, I tried many a times to gather few thoughts to write something about the recently concluded AMU Alumni meet , and each time , I got swayed with whirlpool of myriad emotions and I lost the track .

Every good thing has got an end but it leaves you with such cherish memories which you can look back again and again to experience the warmth and happiness it brings . " Bulbuls" of Chaman-E-Sir Syed again gathered to remember their nostalgic times which they passed here and also pay tribute to the Great Educationist , Visionary and Nationalist " Sir Syed Ahmad Khan" , the very Sir Syed whose Vision and dream lead to the foundation of an institution of the stature of Aligarh Muslim University where since its Inception millions of dreaming eyes created a Niche of themselves . There is a long list of Luminaries and celebrities who got their first vision in this very institution and it is here that they developed the skills, values and capabilities to make it big in their respective lives .

In this Alumni Meet , AMU welcomes its Bulbuls with open arms and Esteemed alumni like Rizwan, Anubhav, Mumshad, Hilal & Ghazwan  enriched the audience with their tales of success , their words were oozing motivation and were full of diverse anecdotes about AMU's role in shaping their lives . They not only shared the wisdom behind their success but also embolden the students to be distinct in their approach and should always uphold the traditional and cultural Values of AMU, wherever they go. They also pledged their support for the growth of institution which was very heartening and motivating as they truly reignited the fire of "Giving Back" to their alma mater in whatever way you can .

Alumni those who are settled abroad and rendering a great service to Alma mater again came forward with their offerings and  vision towards the upliftment of  AMU by making it a truly global university by empowering it with latest advanced pedagogical technologies , research initiatives and training enterprises to both Teachers and students alike . Alumni Associations of USA, Saudi Arabia, UAE and other Gulf countries were represented by esteemed alumni like Faisal Saleem, Hasan Kamal, Nadeem Tareen, Zaigham Khan, Ameer Ahmad and others .

Alumni also interacted with students and shared their experiences both in professional and personal lives and exhorted them to bring glory to AMU through their efforts. Many new projects were announced and ongoing projects were visited.

Any function of AMU cannot be completed unless there is a cultural element attached to it and this time around as well there were cultural events scheduled which refreshed the audience . A Cultural Night was organized at Kennedy auditorium and a Ghazal Night was organized at Sir Syed House in which a very Talented Alig " Farrukh Baig" enthralled the alumni, students and management with his mesmerising voice .

Alumni meet was followed with SS day function in which Prof Ved Prakash ( Chairman UGC) was the chief Guest and he was overwhelmed with the love and affection showered at him by the students of AMU. His speech was certainly an example of intellectual exuberance which everyone should listen to ( It is available on You tube) . SS day dinner in respective halls were the perfect curtain to three wonderful days of Nostalgia , Student -Alumni Bonding and a rejuvenated sense of belonging .

It is certainly not an easy task to give words to an event which was nothing but a whirlpool of emotions . As all the democratic set ups witness opposition and support , AMU is not an exception in that case as well , as we have witnessed many incidents where there was opposition of certain initiatives of the management and also there were few disappointing faces who think that their voices were not heard . I can only say one thing to them that any institution  thrives upon its Students/alumni and even if they are disgruntled or disappointed then they should resolve all the issues within the periphery of the Campus and ascertain that no act of theirs is providing ammunition to the divisive forces who are just looking upon an opportunity to pounce on it and destroy this great seat of learning . No vested or Selfish interest can be bigger than AMU which is a glimmer of Hope for many across the nation . So please if you are really a "Bulbul" of AMU then show it by your act rather than by your words and Join hands for the growth of your own prestigious alma mater. Time will never forgive those who destroy the very vessel in which they eat . I Hope better sense will prevail and we will see an united effort by students and management alike to take AMU to new heights.

I would not dare to end it without giving due credit to all the selfless Volunteers who work tirelessly to assure that alumni are well received and get all the assistance they require and also the team of AMU Alumni affairs under the Aegis of Prof Suhail Sabir Sb , who not only managed the whole event beautifully but also showed a way that how an united and planned effort see the light of the day .
