Prof. Tariq Mansoor is presently serving as the Vice-Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. Previously he has also served as Principal, J.N. Medical College, Chief Medical Superintendent, J.N. Medical College Hospital and Chairman, Department of Surgery. He is also the member of Medical Council of India since March 2015 for a period of four years. He is product of the first batch of prestigious Our Lady of Fatima Higher Secondary School, Aligarh. During his school days he has served as House Captain as well as School Captain. He did his MBBS and MS in General Surgery from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, AMU, Aligarh. A surgeon by profession with special interest in Breast and Thyroid Diseases, Prof. Tariq Mansoor has 33 years of Teaching and 35 years of Clinical experience. He has 90 publications to his credit and has guided 49 Postgraduate Medical Students for their Thesis as Supervisor / Co-Supervisor

25-year-old woman goes through successful open-heart surgery at JNMC


Aligarh, October 29: The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC) recently carried out a successful open-heart surgery on 25-year-old, Khushboo, a native of Hathras in Uttar Pradesh.

Khushboo’s husband, Sachin brought her to JNMC after she complained of breathing difficulties. Mitral Valve Replacement procedure was immediately carried out on the patient.

Teams of JNMC, VNMC and Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi jointly operated the patient.

The surgical team consisted of Dr Manju Gupta, HOD Cardiothoracic Surgery Safdarjung hospital; Prof M H Beg, HOD Cardiothoracic Surgery JNMC; Dr Mohd Azam Haseen and Dr Sayyed Ehtesham Naqvi. The Anaesthesia team consisted of Dr Qazi Ehsan, HOD Anesthesiology; Dr Mahesh, Dr Nadeem Raza and Dr Manazir.

The surgery was supported by residents Dr Amanji Bharti, Dr Reyaz, Dr Rupali, Dr Hussain and Dr Amit. Operation theatre assistants involved in surgery were Noorul Ahad, Yasin , Salman Rameez, Asif and Narendra.

Prof M A Khan, Dean faculty of Medicine and Prof Tariq Mansoor Principal and CMS  J N Medical College congratulated the teams involved and said that open heart surgery program at JNMC will be boon to patients with cardiac illness.

Prof Tariq Mansoor pointed out that the cost of surgery at JNMC will be much less than that in any hospital in NCR region.

Prof M H Beg, Chairman, Cardiothoracic Surgery expressed happiness at the development and thanked the university administration and Dean and Principal JNMC for providing wholehearted support to start open heart surgery program.

He thanked Prof S H Arif, Blood-bank in-charge for his constant support with blood products needed for the surgery.

Dr Mohd Azam Haseen, Associate Professor, Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery said that it is difficult to do such operations in a government set up as it involves specially trained and dedicated personnel from Cardiothoracic surgery, Cardiology, Anaesthesia, Perfusion and Operation theatre staff.

He pointed that closed Cardiac surgery is being done in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery for the past 30 years and recently JNMC has also started heart surgery for children.

Dr Ehtesham Hussain Naqvi, Assistant Professor in Department of Cardiothoracic surgery added that very few medical colleges have functional cardiothoracic surgery departments and JNMC is the only one with this facility in western Uttar Pradesh.
