Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah (Retd) launched the Heritage Conservation and Restoration work at the Syedna Tahir Saifuddin School

ALIGARH July : The Vice Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah (Retd) launched the Heritage Conservation and Restoration work at the Syedna Tahir Saifuddin School on Friday. The Restoration Project is sponsored by Dr. Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University.

Addressing on the occasion, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah recalled the contributions of Syedna Taher Saifuddin, a former Chancellor of the AMU and grandfather of Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, in the development of the STS School. He informed that the present Chancellor had announced a restoration project for the historical buildings of the STS School during his visit to the University in February last. He said that Syedna has also assured to provide 1000 computers for the University schools, which will be made available soon.

Lt. Gen. Shah said that the conservation and restoration of the historical buildings in the University is a need of the hour and efforts are being made to refurbish these iconic buildings to their former grandeur with the help of technical know-how. He said that these near hundred years old structures will be comprehensively restored with their faced to provide them longevity and beauty.

The Vice Chancellor said that the University administration has given special attention to the infrastructural development of the schools as they cater about 50 percent students to the University courses and play an important role in determining the educational standard of the University.

The restoration project report has been prepared by M/s Dawat-e-Hadiya to guide comprehensive building restoration.

The STS School, which was built in 1909, represents an exemplary architectural design with Islamic influence and brick construction technology of the early 1900s. The school was named after the then Viceroy Lord Minto. The school was renamed after the then Chancellor Syedna Tahir Saifuddin in 1966.

A representative team of Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, along with Prof. Omar Farooq, Deputy Director, School Education, Dr. Abid Ali and Mr. Faisal Nafees, Principal, STS School was also present on this occasion.
