AMUTA's Press Release on Reports of threats to the life of the Vice Chancellor

The Executive Committee expresses serious concern over the report in a section of the press that there is a danger to the person of the Vice Chancellor. We call upon the Govt. authorities at both Centre and State to immediately initiate effective measures to overcome this crisis. We further demand the immediate institution of a CBI inquiry to go into the antecedents of this threat to identify the conspirators that have made the situation so bad that the most protected person on the campus, the VC is fearing the heat of threat to his life inspite of his army background.  It needs to be affirmed that if the VC is not safe on his own campus then no one i.e. students, teachers, employees is safe. We need to pursue this matter with central government as there has been unprecedented frequency of fatal incidents and grievous firing leading to murder of 3 students and violent incidents on the campus in the recent past. There are reports of money and muscle power and mafias of various kinds influencing decision making in appointments, placements, admissions, contracts, etc. We fear that this threat may have emanated from some such elements who did not get what they bargained for upto their satisfaction.

If however, this report turns out to be a false alarm then also it requires investigation as it points to the conspiracy of keeping the VC isolated in the name of security from the ordinary students, teachers and employees. We again reiterate that being a central Government organization we, including the VC, should approach the MHRD and MHA to institute a CBI inquiry into the affairs that brought the University to this state. We extend our unconditional support to the VC in this effort to get CBI inquiry instituted.
