Open letter of AMU VC

ALIGARH April 28: The Vice Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah (Retd) in an open letter to students, parents and the entire university community including alumni worldwide said that the deplorable events at the campus are grievous blow, but not mortal.
He said that it was a care of sudden, abrupt vandalism, hooliganism and violence committed by handful of students in collusion with some expelled ex-students and non-students criminals.
General Shahs said that when I assumed charge as the Vice Chancellor, four years ago I was determined that we would never allow the university to be closed “even for a single day”. He said that “I still stand by this commitment”.
AMU Vice Chancellor said that the unfortunate incident, calls for remedial action and “introspection on our part”. He appealed to parents to infuse morals and values into their children. Good, law-abiding behavior is essential for our own survival. There is no excuse for indulging in violence. No indiscipline will be tolerated, he warned.
The Vice Chancellor underlined the fact that hostel life and residential character of this great seat of learning was a vital element in the ethos of this institution. He said that we should take a pledge that we will not permit any misuse of our hostel facilities. Student’s vigilance on this account will help us run the university better. Let us all dedicate ourselves to the important goals of carving out a bright, prosperous future by helping in the noble task of nation building.
He urged the university community not to fall prey to the smear campaign by some disgruntled elements. He said that instead of making baseless charges these critics should come out in the open and substantiate the charges which they are leveling.
