Its time to spread education : VC

ALIGARH July 24: Welcoming and appreciating the decision of Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah, Vice Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University to establish a series of schools throughout the Uttar Pradesh, Prof. (Hakeem) Naeem Ahmad Khan, Dean, Faculty of Unani Medicine said it was a step in the right direction within the ambit of Section 5(2)(c) of the AMU Act, which provides that AMU will strive for the promotion of educational and cultural advancement of the Muslims of India.
He said that this move will revive the spirit of the Aligarh Movement and will add a new dimension in our quest for perfect redemption of the community from backwardness and social isolation. He asserted that the move will be beneficial not only to the Muslim community but also meet the perennial requirement of basic and secondary education to all weaker sections of the society. He added that it would be a fitting tribute to the great visionary on his bicentennial birth anniversary. He stood tall amongst his contemporaries and relentlessly fought for the upliftment of the weaker section of society, affirmed Prof. Khan.
Sir Syed Ahmad Khan's bicentennial birth anniversary falls in 2017. Sir Syed's relentless struggle for educational and cultural advancement of Muslims of India, later came to be known as 'Aligarh Movement', started with the establishment of a Madarsa in 1875, which in two years' time took the shape of MAO College and grew into Aligarh Muslim University in 1920. In this process, the All India Muslim Educational Conference played a pivotal role, and as such, Aligarh Muslim University is the culmination of hopes and aspirations of millions of Muslims in India.
Prof. Naeem Ahmad Khan said, “Educational attainment of the Muslim community is lagging behind our counterparts and the level is decreasing steadily. The trend is an impediment in the development of the community as education is an important pillar in bringing about the social, economic change and integration of the underprivileged to society”. He said that the Sachar Committee identified the reasons for the backwardness of Muslims and Rangnath Mishra Commission came out with ways and means to rehabilitate the backward sections of the community. Both these Commissions identified lack of education at primary and secondary level as the main reason for the community being left behind.
